A Weekend of Rest & Spiritual Growth
November 22-24, 2019 at the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, ID
You are welcome to join Our Redeemer Church for a weekend of rest and spritual growth on November 22-24, 2019. Anyone ages high school through 100 are welcome to attend this weekend spent in prayer, worship, instruction, silence and community within the setting of the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, ID. This is a Benedictine Monastery served by sisters with a 130 year history with roots in Switzerland.
Jerry Sittser of Whitworth University wrote how “visits to a monastery saved my life.” That’s a pretty strong statement. But he found in a monastery run by sisters “solace and [he] recovered [his] equilibrium by submitting on occasion to a monastic rhythm.”
The Farm House on the monastery grounds of St. Gertrude have been secured and can accommodate 17 people comfortably in semi-private rooms with 3 bathrooms. There are rooms available at The Spirit House that are completely private. The cost is a bit higher. It will cost $60 for the weekend at The Farm House. This price also includes meals with the Sisters. Couples can get a private room in The Spirit House for $320 and singles for $190. Those prices include meals and lodging for the whole weekend.
We will structure our own retreat. It will be highly participatory. There will be times of silence & times of praying in the church with the Sisters. We will worship with them. We will have some instruction from one of the Sisters on prayer and contemplative spirituality. I will hold classes for participants prior to November. We will discuss and read about the monastic life and why it has much to offer our fast pace individualized American world.
If you would like to attend this retreat please contact the church office to reserve a spot. Call the church at 509-754-3503 with questions or talk to an Elder.
