Lectionary Passages: Isaiah 9:1-4, 1 Corinthians 1:10-18, Matthew 4:12-23 & Psalm 27:1, 5-13

In Matthew 4:19, Jesus says “Follow Me”.  The most important part of this statement is the “Me” because the Me is Jesus.   In order to follow Jesus we must repent and walk towards him.  We are called to drop everything we know and find comfort in and “Follow Me”.   When we follow Jesus we enter uncertainty; we leave everything we know and go who knows where!  In truly following Jesus, we demonstrate that our allegiance is only to him and to no one or anything else.  Jesus does not ask us to “Follow Me” because we have something he needs.  He asks us to “Follow Me” because he is summoning us to him in order that we may have a relationship with him.
