Lectionary Passages: Psalm 32, Romans 5:12-19 & Mathew 4:1-11

Listen as Mark Bassett preaches on the temptation of Christ that comes out of his baptism.  In our baptism, we enter into the experience that we are God’s beloved in whom he is well pleased just as God loved Jesus and was well pleased.  When Satan tempted Jesus in the desert,  he presented the devilish IFs to Jesus.  Jesus did not fall for them though, he claimed his belovedness of God.  Do we fall for the devilish IFs? Or do we remember that we are God’s beloved?  As Christ’s life and death exemplify, being God’s beloved does not mean that our life and death will not include suffering and misery.  Through our suffering and misery, God does powerful things.
