John the Baptist does not give us Christmassy feelings. He reminds us that true Biblical-Advent-focus on the coming of the King has a stubborn resistance to Christmas Cheer. He calls for us to repent in a manner that makes us all uncomfortable. But he also makes us overly aware of our need make space for Christ by repenting so that he can enter our lives.
